Joliet, Ill – May 25, 2021 – The Joliet Generals have hired Adam O’Malley as the team’s pitching coach for the 2021 season.

O’Malley currently serves as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Harper College in Palatine, Ill. He played college baseball at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh by way of Rockford University as a pitcher. Prior to his collegiate baseball career, O’Malley played football at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind. He played summer ball for the Rockford Rivets and Eau Claire Express of the Northwoods League.

“I love collegiate summer ball,” O’Malley said. “I had such a great experience as a player. Having the opportunity to meet kids from different schools and different levels, and just kind of enjoying the summer from a developmental standpoint. Learning from the players you're around, and from all these different coaches that they’ve had, I think is what makes summer ball so special.”

O’Malley grew up in Richmond, Ill., and attended Elk Grove High School, where he was All-Conference and All-Area as a senior in baseball. He was an All-State Honorable Mention as a quarterback at Elk Grove, and won MSL Player of the Year. He studied physical education in college, and says that his teaching background helps coach players at various different levels. He is also a coach in the Illinois Indians organization.

“It’s such a blessing to be able to impact so many student-athletes at so many different levels,” O’Malley said. “The fact that I get to do it through the game of baseball makes it even better.”

O’Malley has had various baseball influences, but none were bigger than Sammy Sosa. O’Malley says he wore #21 on the diamond because of Sosa. He says he also loves the play from current San Diego Padres superstar Fernando Tatis Jr.
