Generals Send Eight to MCL All-Star Game, Silva to Manage

Joliet, Ill. – July 14, 2021 – The Midwest Collegiate League announced the rosters for the 2021 All-Star Game on Tuesday, with eight Generals players headlining the West All-Stars on Tuesday, July 20 at Oil City Stadium. Generals’ manager Joe Silva was also chosen to lead the West All-Stars in his first season as manager.

Charlie Gannon (MSOE / DeKalb, Ill.) is hitting .353 with a pair of doubles and 10 runs scored on the season. Gannon also holds a 1.104 OPS in nine games. He leads all Generals’ catchers with two putouts behind the plate on stolen-base attempts. 

Bryce Vincent (St. Ambrose / Algonquin, Ill.) has put up video game numbers in his first 10 MCL games, slashing .439/.465/.610. Vincent’s batting average leads all MCL hitters (10 game minimum). He holds a .919 fielding percentage with just three errors.

Christian Seegers (Oakton / Schaumburg, Ill.) is the lone-MCL Player of the Week for the Generals in the first half. Seegers leads the team in doubles (6) and walks (14). He is hitting .263 in 12 games.

Cooper Avery (Valparaiso / Naperville, Ill.) struck out 26 batters to just four walks in his first four starts, including a 10 K performance against Crestwood. Avery gives up just over five hits a game, and he recently announced he will transfer to play Division-1 ball at Valparaiso.

Jack Bell (Western Illinois / Minooka, Ill.) leads the MCL in starts (6) and innings-pitched (33). The Generals ace holds a 2-2 record with a 2.72 ERA, and a 35:5 (7:1) strikeout-to-walk ratio. In his first start of the season, Bell threw six no-hit innings with seven strikeouts against Crestwood. He is a potential-starting pitcher for the All-Star Game on July 20.

Brennan Fisher (Quincy / Westchester, Ill.) has been the most consistent bat in the Generals’ lineup in the first half. Fisher is hitting .371 with one home run and 14 RBI, which is second-most on the team. He also leads the team in runs scored (20) and triples (2). Out of the 21 games played for Joliet this year, Fisher is second on the team in starts (17). Finally, he holds a 12-game hitting-streak as of July 12.

Kai Formella (Dupage / Elmhurst, Ill.) has been lights-out from the bullpen this season. Formella, the right-handed curveball specialist, is 1-0 with a 2.07 ERA this season, including three scoreless appearances against the Chicago American Giants. He has struck out 12 hitters to just three walks.

Nick Vollmert (St. Ambrose / Crystal Lake, Ill.) is one of six MCL pitchers to earn Pitcher of the Week awards this summer. The six-foot-six-inch righty struck out nine Minutemen to no walks in a win on June 18. Vollmert is 2-0 with a 4.08 ERA, and a 21:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

The MCL All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, July 20 at Oil City Stadium. The West All-Stars will start players from the Generals, Minutemen, and Chicago American Giants. The East All-Stars will field their team with players from the Vikings, Panthers, And Oilmen.
