Corn Dogs Blank Generals 16-0

06/03/2023 9:54 PM -

GRIFFITH, Ind. – The Lake County Corn Dogs continued their dominant start to the season, as they improved to 6-1 on the year by having their way with the Griffith Generals, winning 16-0. The Generals struggled mightily on defense, as they lost several fly balls in the lights and racked up six errors, putting the season total at 13 through 23 innings played.

Max Waszkiewicz made his season debut at second base and played well, making several solid plays on defense. He also got on base three times with a single and two hit-by-pitches.

“It felt good to be playing under the lights,” said Waszkiewicz. “Good group of guys. Just trying to have fun, play hard.”

After the game, Generals head coach Peter Romsek gathered the team and spoke on the rough start to the season. He recognized that he had slotted some guys into some off-positions defensively, but routine plays weren’t being made. On the pitching front, he mentioned that innings would be rewarded to “guys who throw strikes.”

When asked how the Generals would bounce back against the same Corn Dogs squad tomorrow, Romsek remarked, “That’s the nice thing about baseball: always tomorrow. Stat line said it today; we gotta be better defensively. We gotta make plays on the defensive side of the ball and we’ve gotta play catch. It’s been three ugly ones, but we’re gonna keep working at it.”

Osvaldo Ballesteros will take the hill for Griffith tomorrow as they still seek their first win of the season. It will be the third matchup in six days against the reigning champion Corn Dogs. Tomorrow's game will start at 4:10 p.m. on the first “Family Sunday” of the season at Brian Jennings field.
